I've had to use the P2PBus.ph website on multiple occasions to find schedules and stations where I can catch the bus. Visiting the website always gave me a sense of doubt because, in my experience, it's been difficult to tell how accurate the times are.
Aside from that, navigation on the site was a little confusing.
It looked too plain and I knew it could be better—but how? I couldn’t put it into words, so I conducted a heuristic evaluation to take a closer look to see what could be improved. I first took note of the problems that the current website faced. First up: The Home Page
Redesigning the home page
I took note of these opportunities then redesigned it like so:
But then I hit a wall
I couldn't figure out how much spacing to give elements; the design still felt awkward, but I didn't know how to fix it. So I sought help.
Fortunately, I recently joined a UX/UI community, UI/UX Designer Community (Philippines). There I sought advice on how else I could improve the design of the UI.
This was a big moment for me because I don't usually make posts on big, public FB groups. But I wanted to bet on other people's kindness—which turned out far more than I expected.
The post garnered a good amount of engagement; average post engagement in the group would be a handful of likes. There was even this one person who wrote a huge comment about the things I could do better. It filled me with gratitude.
Reading that felt incredibly motivating for me, and has encouraged me to continue working on this project and being open to asking questions.
That's what led me to design this:
The P2P is form of public transportation, meaning people need to trust it. This version felt like a step up because it gave site visitors more information about the P2P from the get-go, adding more credibility and, therefore, increasing its trustworthiness.
